I have some very unfortunate news.

This surely has been the worst day on record, ever.
Last night I went to bed with a tickle in my throat. No, thought the optimist, I can't be getting sick...I haven't been sick in ages! We put Moose in his crate at about 10:30pm and packed it in, all snug in our beds. He woke up at 12:30am, barking non-stop and pissing me right off. We let him out, all's good, he peed, got some water, then bam, we put him back in the crate. He then wakes up at 2:30am. I don't know about you, but I'm nice as sunshine during the day---sweet as sugar pie---but in the middle of the night? Not so much. So I go down and let Moose out as calmly as possible, all the while totally wanting to strangle him, and lo and behold all he wants to do is run around the house, making a hellfire racket as I chase him from the office to the kitchen to the family room and back again. A million bajillion times. By the time I get him into the crate and make it back into bed I notice the tickle in my throat has become an ache. Shit, thought the optimist, which is really very unlike an optimist, if you think about it.
Sleeping At Last
Sleeping At Last is one of my favorite bands, and they've just released their much anticipated new album, No Score. Their sound is haunting, lush, sincere and purely beautiful, and not only that, they're my neighbors here in this town. It's incumbent upon us at this time, now more than ever...I will wiretap your ASS
I don't know what the big hubbub is over this wiretapping business. It's not as if our government can't continue to wiretap, they CAN. It's not as if FISA is all about denying warrants, they're clearly NOT. It's not as if the government can't obtain these warrants retroactively, either, which to me affords a lot of damned latitude. When you consider that the only criteria for warrant denial is that no reasonable person would think a criminal act had occurred or was occurring, it seems damned prudent to me. If they want to wiretap me or you they SHOULD have to prove to the court that there is reason to do so, and yeah, if a reasonble person wouldn't think so, I'd like there to be a stall in the process.
